Swiss brand Kuhn Ricon has made a trademark of brightly colored novelty knives, including fruit-specific ones. But there’s also some deceptively serious functionality behind these cartoonish, carbon steel implements. The Citrus knife, for instance, is a three-in-one tool, with paring knife, zester and scorer wrapped in a compact, foldable profile; while the 11″ Watermelon knife, which comes paired with a protective sheath, is sharp enough to slice through melon rind as the tiny seed-shaped perforations help trap pesky seeds. That’s sharp thinking.

Admittedly an item based on such a melancholy image (never mind that
woeful copy) wouldn’t have much to recommend it, but if wearing your
arty credentials on your sleeve (or shoulder) counts for anything, we
can’t quite imagine a more excellent bag to tote around this summer than
this one. Bearing a replica of Roy Lichtenstein’s 1963 painting, Hopeless, this fully lined canvas bag comes from London’s Tate Gallery, and we aren’t afraid to admit we’re hopelessly besotted enough to spring for the extra international postage.

Art Deco jewelry was distinguished by its geometric settings, and these 1920′s-inspired arrow bobby pins from Los Angeles jewelry designer Jennifer Meyer continue the tradition. Meyer, who happens to be married to the actor Tobey McGuire, was taken with the lavish Tiffany jewelry gracing the Jazz Age set of The Great Gatsby, the costume-lavish film remake which stars her husband. “The arrow shape was often featured in that period, and I wanted to bring it back with a contemporary spin,” she explains, of this diamond, turquoise and ruby trio rolling out in June at Barney’s New York. But be warned: contemporary art like this doesn’t come cheaply.

How's this for "body shop chic?" This cool tire table from Tavomatico features two circular discs of plexiglass - one on the top and one on the bottom, turning a tire into a tabletop with storage space inside. Four small wheels mounted to the bottom let you roll this unusual table to your desired location - in the living room or den, home office, studio, or to the man cave - this piece is certainly dressed the part! The thick, chunky tire tread brings a bit of built-in texture to the design, but it's all been finished to make it smooth, odorless and resistant to wear and tear. But with its original intended use for the road, there's not much this little table can't take. The traditional black finish screams industrial chic, or opt for a vibrant color to transform this former auto element into a fabulous furniture piece. An optional LED light takes this modern table to the next level. The tire table is available in a range of sizes and color options. Check it out by visiting Tavomatico.
