'transitions' - created in collaboration with a physiotherapist by french designer mickael boulay - is a set of cutlery that assists the development of
impaired
motor skills through a series of tangible steps. through the various
degrees, each utensil corresponds to a process required to strengthen
dexterity
from the main muscles of the hand to the tips of the fingers. the
instruments begin from easy-to-grip organic objects through to more
refined
shapes that gradually demand more agility in grasping and using.
'transitions' is not a necessarily a system to completely resolve a
handicap,
but allows more progressive improvement in motor skills towards regular functioning.
boulay describes the ideas behind the work:
'being handicapped isn’t synonymous with remaining handicapped,
and progress is always possible. additionally, at every step of the
process,
my cutlery aims to make people confident and comfortable with improving their current condition.'
